Popup Wizard — AI popups for Wix, built by Exaltation

The problem

Wix site owners wanted conversion popups without leaving their editor or hiring a designer. Many tools felt bolted on or required custom code.

We extended Popup Wizard as a native Wix App Market product with AI content generation, Smart Layout Builder on Growth, and the same free-to-Growth pricing model merchants already understood.

Approach

• Native Wix distribution. Ship through the Wix App Market for familiar install and management.
• Parity with Shopify core. Shared product principles — AI first, free tier, transparent Growth pricing — adapted to Wix workflows.
• Wix-specific AI output. The Smart Layout Builder required a more opinionated output format than the Shopify version — producing full layout configuration from a prompt, not just copy.
• Shared core, platform-specific surface. The campaign engine, AI pipeline, and analytics layer were built once and adapted — not rebuilt — for Wix, keeping the product footprint manageable across two major platforms.

How we built it

The Wix version reuses the campaign engine, AI pipeline, and analytics layer built for Shopify. The distribution and management surface is adapted to match how Wix site owners expect to work — inside the Wix Business Manager rather than the Shopify admin. The two platforms share product logic; only the integration layer is platform-specific.

The AI Smart Layout Builder on the Growth plan extends beyond copy generation. It produces a complete popup structure from a goal prompt — not just words, but layout configuration that the builder renders directly. This required a more opinionated output format than the Shopify version, tuned specifically for how Wix renders content.

Storefront performance constraints are the same across both platforms: the embed must not affect page load or Core Web Vitals, regardless of the site template.

Challenges

• Platform-specific rendering constraints. Wix's app model has tighter boundaries than Shopify's. Adapting the popup render layer to work within those constraints without degrading the merchant experience required more engineering effort than a direct port would suggest.
• Evolving the AI output format. Producing layout-ready output for the Smart Layout Builder meant extending the AI pipeline beyond what the Shopify version needed. Getting structured, consistent results across a wider range of prompts took several iterations to get right.
• App Market review standards. Like Shopify, Wix reviews apps for data handling, design consistency, and platform fit. We passed on the first submission by documenting our approach thoroughly and aligning the UI to Wix's design guidelines before submitting.

Launch & results

• Published on the Wix App Market alongside the existing Shopify App Store listing, completing the cross-platform product footprint.
• Growth-tier Smart Layout Builder differentiates the Wix version by reducing design guesswork, addressing a gap specific to Wix site owners who rely on the editor for visual output.
• Shared pricing across both platforms simplifies the product story and reduces decision friction when merchants move between platforms.

Lessons learned: platform-specific adaptation takes less time when the product core is well-separated from the distribution layer; and constrained AI output schemas scale across platforms with fewer edge cases than open-ended generation.
